Before I start, let me just say that I hate talking about myself and what happened. What matters is here and now. But nevertheless it is important for you to know a little about my background and how I came to be like I am.
I'm 33 years old and live in Truro, Cornwall, with my fiancée and stepdaughter. A diving accident in 1991 left me paralysed from the chest down with only limited arm movement and no hand function. I am not the most organised person but strangely enough I seem to get things done, much to everyone's amazement... and my own!
My main hobby is my computer, although my family would probably say it's an obsession.
I tend to have a positive outlook on life and believe that age old saying: if it doesn't kill you, it will make you stronger. When I broke my neck I had a choice; deal with it and survive, or don't and give up. Such a choice seems a momentary thing, but in reality it lasts a lifetime. I chose the deal with it and survive option, and each day I remind myself that things could be so much worse. Let's face it, the reason you are reading this is that I was given the most wonderful gift on earth, life. To not deal with my situation would make me envious and bitter, which to me is no life at all. |
